FAQ Friday: Personal Probate Perspective
On Friday, May 29, 2025, Attorney Steven Berger discusses what its like to handle a probate from a personal perspective.
Steve’s aunt, Arlene Berger passed 2 weeks ago. His aunt had no children and her husband passed in 2021. Taking care of the estate landed in Steve’s lap and it helped him appreciate what his clients are going through as personal representative.
She passed peacefully in her sleep and got a call from the chaplain. Steve also had to coordinate with the medical examiner as well as the funeral home. He setup and planned the memorial service. Steve also went through her home to clean it out and also distribute family heirlooms. Additionally, Steve corresponded with the cemetery so his aunt and uncle could be buried together.
Trust Administration is next on his to-do list and he can see how this can be complicated and overwhelming for his clients. He urges his listeners to not feel guilty for wanting to get professionals involved as it can be very complex.
