Friday, February 20th, our estate administrator, Karla Horn talks about tax returns.
For those who lost a spouse, if you were originally filing joint tax returns prior to their death, you can still file that way in the year your spouse passed away.
There may be other returns needing to be filed as well. One is an estate fiduciary return or a form 1041. Those are due the same date as personal returns.
If you have a trust or if the trust is created through a will, then a trust return might be necessary as well.
Portability is an IRS 706 form which is due 9 months after someone passes away.
