FAQ Friday: Vehicles

Friday, February 13th, paralegal Sabrina Coughlin talks about vehicles.

In the state of Maryland, it is allowed to designate a beneficiary for your vehicle. This however is only applicable when the vehicle is individually owned. If the vehicle is jointly owned it may not apply now, but it could in the future.

To add this beneficiary you go online to the Maryland vehicle registration website and there is a small fee associated with this task.

This then sets your vehicle outside of probate which will make it much easier for your beneficiary to have ownership designation switched over. They will need the death certificate.
